2007 Concept2 British IRC
The deadline for entry for this year's Concept2
British IRC is fast approaching. Postal entries close tomorrow, while
you have until 9 a.m. on Monday, 29th October to enter online at www.concept2.co.uk/birc/entryform.php.
Every year, over half of all competitors enter in the last few days;
equally there are also a number of competitors who miss the deadline and
are disappointed, so make sure you remember in time.
You can see a current list of entrants at http://www.concept2.co.uk/birc/events.php,
where you can also sign up to receive free text messages giving an
individual's time and place after the event.
For more information about the day, or if you have any questions, go to www.concept2.co.uk/birc/news/frequent_questions
Carole
McNally
"When you have confidence you can
have a lot of fun. And when you have fun you can do amazing things."
Carole McNally was one of the more unforgettable people on the indoor
rowing circuit. A keen competitor, and an even keener fundraiser, she was
one of those people always at the centre of a crowd wherever she went.
Carole sadly lost her fight against cancer earlier on this year. In
honour of her, a number of indoor rowers got together for a 24-hour
rowing event in Manchester, raising over £8,500 pounds for charity. To
read more about Carole and the charity row, go to the Concept2
People section of our site.
British
Records
In order to bring the British 2,000m
records in line with the World records, we have split the age categories
into five year bands from 50 onwards. You can find the new times on the British
Records page. Hopefully, we have got the new times correct, but if we
haven't and you know of any faster ones, please send an email to webmaster@concept2.co.uk. Remember: for
2,000m records, all times must be done in championships.
Nigel
Stevenson
If you were at the British IRC for the
early races last year, you’ll probably remember the worrying scenes when
one of the competitors suffered a heart attack while racing. Fortunately,
a tragedy was avoided by the prompt actions of the event’s medical staff.
A year on, we’ve caught up with Nigel Stevenson to see how he’s doing. To
read his story, go to www.concept2.co.uk/news/nigel_stevenson.
Siemens
Stroke For Stoke Week
The Stroke Association has teamed up with
Siemens, the high performance partner of GB Rowing, for the first ever
Siemens Stroke for Stroke Week, from 3 - 9 December 2007.
They are asking people to sign up to row a 10km section of the round the
world distance and get sponsorship for doing it. If they can get 4,000
supporters to row 10km each, then they will have rowed the 40,000 km,
once around the whole world.
Olympic rower and campaign ambassador James Cracknell MBE said: "I
am delighted to be supporting Stroke for Stroke Week. Rowing is a great
choice of exercise and completing a 10km row over the course of the week
will be a perfect starting point for people to realise the health
benefits rowing can bring, plus it will provide vital funds for The
Stroke Association."
For more information about Stroke for Stroke Week, and to sign up to row
your 10km please visit www.siemens.co.uk/strokeforstroke.
Concept2
Team League
The closing date for the first round of
the Concept2 Team League is midnight on Monday, November 5th, so make
sure you get all your entries in before then. The Concept2
Team League has replaced the old 8GP/Winter Team League competition
and is free to enter. There are competitions for teams of four and eight
and for males and females. There are also three age categories: under
20s, Open and 35+ and all you need is access to a single Indoor Rower.
The challenge for October is 2,000m for teams of four and 4,000m for
teams of eight, with each team member having to row 250m twice.
To enter, go to http://www.concept2.co.uk/teamleague/.
