You can either enter on-line, or download an entry form. Entry fee is the same as last year, which is £5 for J12-J16, £10 for J18, BUSA and 60+ categories, and £15 for everybody else. This was the inspiration to carry out this May's challenge: to row one million metres in the month. To complete this I will need to row 32,300m per day that's about 2.5 hours sat on my backside. This has been made a lot easier with support from Concept 2 with a seat pad. "I have been rowing most of the distance at my local gym "Sam Jones" in Sheffield where I have been a member since the gym opened. Most of my time spend at the gym sees me sat on the Indoor Rower so people have got to know me by this. Both Sam Jones and Outokumpu Stainless where I work have supported me greatly in this event. "As of today I have totalled up 675,000m with the aim of completing the challenge by the 28th May. "As part of the challenge I wanted to support two local charities which both have national ties "The two charities that I wish to benefit from my challenge are the Sheffield Children's Hospital, which is one of only four children's hospitals in the country, where I am hoping to raise £5,000 to purchase two rehabilitation chairs for the neurology department; these chairs will assist children recovering from acquired brain injury from road traffic accidents, meningitis or other illnesses. "The second charity that I will donate to will be the Weston Park Hospital for Cancer Research. Weston Park Hospital is one of only three oncology hospitals in the country, specialising in the treatment of cancer. The hospital is home to one of the country's only Teenage Cancer Units, where patients aged 16-24 are treated in a specially designed environment. "Sheffield was designated a cancer centre in 1995 and the surrounding district general hospitals became cancer units. The cancer centre serves the local population and provides a full range of other more complex services for the whole of the North Trent area "Pledges can be made by cheque (made payable to the charity and posted to Charles Bradley- Smith, 14 Hursley Drive, Sothall, Sheffield, S20 2QY) or can be made on-line at the following addresses: "Sheffield Childrens Hospital Charities (registered number: 505002) – http://www.justgiving.com/mayrow "Weston Park Cancer Research (registered number 1039885) http://www.justgiving.com/millionmetrerow." ========================================================= Thames Sculling Record ========================================================= Malcolm Knight has recently set a new record for the fastest ever non-stop solo row down the River Thames, covering the 165 mile distance in 43 hours, 40 minutes and 56 seconds. Malcolm clocked up as many metres as possible on the Indoor Rower beforehand in order to get himself in shape for the row. As his article on the row is quite lengthy, we've placed it in full on our website: you can read all about it at http://www.concept2.co.uk/news/news.php?story=thames_row. ========================================================= Forthcoming Races and Events ========================================================= Name: Evesham Golden Mile Date: 09/07/05 Venue: Evesham Rowing Club Distance: 1,609m Organiser: Eddie Fletcher Contact: T: 01386 40050 E: eddie@fletchersportscience.co.uk Other: As well as phoning or emailing Eddie Fletcher for an entry form, you can write to 15 Coldicott Gardens, Evesham, WR11 2JW Name: Castle Combe 1 Rowathlon Date: 24/07/05 Venue: Castle Combe Distance: 2k row, 16k bike, 3k run Organiser: Rowing Triathlon Contact: E: info@rowingtriathlon.com Website: www.concept2.co.uk/rowathlon/ Other: First race in the 2005 Concept 2 British Rowathlon series. ____________________________________________________FEEDBACK You like?
